I wrote a paper about Mathematics for a philosophy course at the U of Utah in the summer of 2024. I discussed the place mathematics holds within the world of science.

My final project for Methods of Computational Mathematics I, taught in the fall of 2024, was about phyllotaxis. I found this to be very enjoyable. This was written together with my group members, Emma Hayes and Charlotte Moser.

I focused on studying a paper written by Dr. Yoshitaro Tanaka et al., cited in the report. His approach to modeling phyllotaxis was a biochemical one, and allowed for very nice visuals. The numerical solution to his model required expensive computations, so I wrote about handling this as well.

I also enjoyed learning about the history of this field of study, which is an interesting point of intersection between mathematics and botany.
